Memorial Day Reminds Me Why Home Matters
Memorial Day has always meant something special to me growing up and building a life here in Suffolk County towns like Commack, Smithtown, East Northport, and the surrounding communities that I have been proud to call home my entire life.
For me, this weekend has never just been about the unofficial start of summer. It is about reflection. It is about family. It is about honoring the people who gave everything so we could enjoy moments that many of us sometimes take for granted, sitting in our backyards with family, hearing kids laugh outside, firing up the grill, and spending time with the people we care about most.
When I started Top of the Line Landscaping more than 30 years ago, I never looked at it as simply landscaping. I looked at it as a way to stay connected to the community that helped shape who I am. Every property we work on belongs to somebody’s family story. Over the years, I have watched families grow, homes get passed down, and neighborhoods evolve while still holding onto that strong sense of community that makes this part of Long Island special.
One of the things I appreciate most today is that I still get to work so closely with the people and neighborhoods I grew up around. There is something meaningful about driving through familiar streets every day and knowing the work my team and I do helps families enjoy their homes a little more. Some of the customers we work with today have been with us for decades. In some cases, we are now working for the next generation of homeowners in the same families. That is something I never take for granted.
Memorial Day also reminds me how important community really is. The values that built these neighborhoods, pride, hard work, sacrifice, loyalty, and looking out for one another, are the same values I have always tried to bring into my business and the way we treat our customers.
As somebody who has spent his entire life here, I love knowing that the work we do stays local. The relationships stay local. The trust stays local. To me, that is what makes this work rewarding after all these years.
From my family and everyone at Top of the Line Landscaping, I want to wish everybody a safe and meaningful Memorial Day. Most importantly, I want to thank and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Their service and sacrifice are the reason we are able to enjoy the freedoms and communities we cherish every day.
